OPALCO’s Switch It Up program has $46 million in funds available

OPALCO members can now fund up to $100,000 (per membership) in efficiency improvements for their home or business. Eligible projects include home heating units (ducted and non-ducted), smart thermostats, weather protection measures such as windows, doors and insulation, solar and battery projects, Energy Star appliances , fiber internet, electric vehicle chargers and commercial projects.

OPALCO’s Switch It Up program is an easy-to-qualify, on-bill financing program that requires no down payment and financing terms of up to 10 years at a 2% interest rate. To be eligible, you must be a member in good standing of the cooperative: have paid your electricity bill on time for 12 months. The first steps are to get an offer from a contractor and complete the online application.

Join us on April 6 via Zoom at 5 p.m. to find out how to get your Switch It Up project started quickly. Email communications@opalco.com to find out how to register.

This program is funded by the USDA Rural Energy Conservation Program. Since 2018, 228 San Juan County members have taken advantage of the program, primarily to install ductless heat pumps in their homes. With this third round of funding, OPALCO is able to provide its members with a much larger list of projects.

“It’s one of the best things you can do for your energy future,” says Managing Director Foster Hildreth, “Making your homes fully electric and highly efficient will lower your electricity bills and is a big step towards a clean, green energy supply. This is a huge capital investment in our community that will benefit generations to come.”

It’s a good time to be curious about where you can improve the efficiency of your home and business, what steps you can take to make your energy future more affordable, and what investments make sense for your family.
