Farmers Market Coupon Program Now Open | Center County Gazette

Fresh tomatoes…fresh asparagus…fresh corn…oh my.

Fresh fruits and vegetables are certainly a tasty part of summer as we wait for every morsel to ripen in the fields and trees. Summer also signals it’s time for the Farmers Market Nutrition Voucher Program distributed by the County Office of the Aging Center.

This year, the Center County Office of Aging is offering a hybrid distribution of Farmers’ Market vouchers. Applications are available by mail as well as in-person delivery to seniors’ apartment buildings in Center County. Distribution of the program by mail and in person should allow everyone to access the program at their comfort level in terms of the number of people in a space and ease of access. Each person will receive the vouchers once a year.

Remaining the same as previous years, participants must be 60 or older as of December 31, meet income guidelines and be a resident of Center County. Income is self-reported; no documentation is required, but requires a signature on the federal form confirming gross income guidelines are met.

Income guidelines: one person, $25,142; two people, $33,874.

The stimulus funds received are not counted in the guidelines. However, any unemployment must be included when reviewing the guidelines and determining eligibility. Each eligible person receives four checks for $6, for a total of $24. Checks are for the purchase of fresh fruits and vegetables that must be grown in Pennsylvania. Checks must be spent at a participating vendor at a farmers market; they cannot be spent on groceries.

Distribution is by county of residence; however, vouchers can be spent at any farmer’s market that accepts vouchers across Pennsylvania. This is a first come, first served program.

To receive the application to begin the process, call the Office of Aging at (814) 355-6716 to provide your name and mailing address if you wish to participate by mail; for an up-to-date list of local locations as well as in-person distribution times; or email the Office of Aging at [email protected] your name and mailing address indicating the FMV or supporting documents in your email.
