Use Puffin browser to play Flash games on Android without wasting data “Android :: Gadget Hacks

Once upon a time, Flash games reigned supreme as one of the best entertainment the internet had to offer. But then came the smartphone, which quickly overtook this genre with similar games that you can play wherever you are. If you yearn for the good old days, however, you’ll be happy to know that you can still use the Puffin Browser to safely play your old favorites and discover new gems.

Although Flash is obsolete in most cases and regularly criticized for many security vulnerabilities, both old and new Flash games are still on the web. Years ago, Newgrounds was a favorite for Flash games, but most of today’s deals are aimed at kids on sites like Nickelodeon. Luckily, cool underground content like that Super Smash Bros homebrew is still around.

Aside from games, the Puffin browser has other cool features like enhanced security through encrypted connections and data saving options. We’ll take a look at the installation process and go through a few settings to make sure everything works as expected.

Step 1: Install Puffin Web Browser

To get started, the first thing you need to do is install Puffin Web Browser, which is available for free from the Google Play Store.

Step 2: Perform the initial setup

Once the installation is complete, open the app and scroll through the first screens explaining Puffin’s features. Once this process is complete, you will be able to create (or probably just verify) the next two configuration options.

Step 3: Adjust the settings

As you might have seen during the initial setup, Puffin claims to increase security and speed while reducing data usage. Puffin does this by tunneling your traffic over a 2,048-bit encrypted connection, which also filters out unsecured connections and compresses the traffic to reduce data usage while increasing speed.

Unless you do a side-by-side comparison between browsers, you won’t be able to see any major differences in speed. However, you can check the data savings by tapping on the gear icon after opening a new tab. While you’re at it, be sure to hit the “Data Savings” link and then choose “Always” if you want to get a slight increase in page load times when using Wi-Fi. From there, press “Advanced” and then use the slider to adjust the quality of Flash playback.

Step 4: Play Flash Games

The Nickelodeon games mentioned above are great for kids, but other sites offer solid entertainment for adults, and many games provide true entertainment. If you want a good place to start, here are some of the best Flash games I’ve found recently:

When you find a game you like, you’ll be happy to hear that Puffin comes with a built-in gamepad that makes playing that much easier. To try it out, hit the three-dot menu button and then activate the “GamePad” option, which should help you a bit with games designed for use with a mouse and keyboard.
